Creative Uses for Avocado: Nature’s Magical Green Fruit

It’s normal to associate avocados with guacamole and not much else. It may surprise you to learn that there are actually a variety of creative uses for this magical green fruit that extend well beyond plant-based snacks.

Since avocados have a creamy texture and an unmatched nutritional profile, they are able to provide the same consistency and texture as milk, butter, or cream products. This makes it easy to transform avocados into plenty of other wellness-based, organic items, such as homemade face masks, baby food, and even eye cream.

Not only are avocados an excellent source of healthy fats, but they also contain glutathione and 23 percent of the recommended daily value of folate, which can lower the incidence of aging, cancer, and heart disease.

To celebrate National Avocado Day, think outside of the box and consider these creative uses of avocado as part of your daily self-care routine.

Make a sweet and healthy treat

While most of us have tried avocado on sandwiches, in salads, or as guacamole, few have tried avocado as a dessert. As mentioned, the creamy consistency of avocados makes the fruit a fantastic substitute for dessert staples like mousse or pudding. Adding a bit of cocoa or another natural sweetener will cut out the avocado flavoring, making for a tasty dessert that’s virtually free of sugar. You can also use avocado to make chocolate cakes and brownies, too.

Create DIY eye or face masks

There are many nutrients within avocados, such as potassium, folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin B, and vitamin E, to name a few. These nutrients are especially enriching for sensitive areas of the skin, such as your face and the area surrounding your eyes. There are many types of DIY recipes available for making beauty masks out of avocado and other natural ingredients around your house. Now you have an entirely new use for smashed avocado!

Repurpose the pit to make a foot scrub

If your summertime feet feel calloused and rough, you can actually use all parts of an avocado to create a nourishing foot scrub. Using the pit, the avocado fruit, cornmeal, sea salt, and a coffee grinder, you can both exfoliate and moisturize your feet with healthy oils. Even though your skin might turn a little green as you scrub, it’ll be worth it to feel smooth and rejuvenated skin thereafter.
